“Twitter Power”- How to Dominate Your Market One Tweet at a Time

Good Morning Everybody!

I was searching wordpress this morning on social media to see what others had to say and ran across a wonderful blog by Kevin B. Hawkins (http://kevinbhawkins.wordpress.com/2009/08/20/how-do-i-continuously-increase-my-following-on-twitter/#comment-9) about how to increase your following on Twitter. I thought it was great advise on the problem many tweeters find, wasting valuable time with little audience.

I thought I would contribute and shed some light on the matter. What I have comes from an expert on the subject, Joel Comm, an extremely witty, intelligent, personable man. His book, “Twitter Power: How to Dominate Your Market One Tweet at a Time”, is a no-brainer tool for anyone who wants to increase their following on Twitter.

Here are just a few tips from the book:
“Twitter Power: How to Dominate Your Market One Tweet at a Time”

  1. Joining Twitter: Choose a twitter username that you want to be able to brand. Usually that will be your name. As Comm says “If you pick a random username, you leave a valuable advantage on the table” (Comm 31)
  2. Interesting enough, Comm suggests that before you follow anyone, add some jazz to your profile! One creative way he suggests to get around being limited by content is to create a background with a left side column with your picture, your logo, and some info about you and/or websites to refer people too. Also choose a picture that’s close up and professional for your main picture.
Need a free template: go here: www.box.net/shared/lgw2pz4gso
  3. One Line Bio: Comm suggests this outline: “[Professional Description 1], [Professional Description 2], [Professional Description 3], who likes to [personal description]” (Comm 40). Such as “Tree Surgeon, Garden Expert, and green-fingered designer who likes to smell freshly-cut grass”. Another approach Comm suggests it to “write a bio that discusses a particular project” (Comm 41).

Skipping ahead (which you’ll want to go back and read all the tips on how to use your cell phone as well for Twitter), let’s go to the attracting an audience section:

  1. The most important thing: “Produce content that’s interesting, fun and valuable(Comm 67)
  2. Create a network of experts: “It’s much more efficient to identify the key Twitterers on the topic and get them to follow you” (Comm 72). Do this by entering keywords and pull up tweets that contain a specific keyword and browse their profile for content. Follow them, retweet their information, but also send out your own advise. As Comm says “Give back more than you take” (Comm 75).
  3. Add people you know, not just the experts.
  4. Run a Contest! Ask questions and offer a prize! “By running the contest live, through Twitter, it collects all of its customers together in one place at one time, turns them into a community and creates a party atmosphere too” (Comm 89).
  5. The Art of the Tweet: (By Joel Comm 94-98)
    Don’t Spam
Follow the Rules: For ex. Don’t use all caps- looks like you’re yelling!
    Give Credit to Retweets
    Stick to 140 characters:
Use links to a blog if you need more!
    Follow people who follow you
(Add content! Add photos, link to articles, do contests, retweet, add personal tweets about your day, etc.)

Anyway, go get his book- its a slam dunk!

Branding Yourself and Growing Your Business Online!

Good Afternoon Everybody!

Want to Brand Yourself Online?

Did you know 76% of Americans have the Internet at home or work?

Well…

Lately my assistant and I have been attending many different webinars taught by experts in the social media world and the importance of marketing ourselves and our names online!

So I thought I’d share a little info with you!

One thing I’ve learned is to market your NAME not your business. This is how you brand your name and when people begin to know you and trust you as a person, they will begin to trust you as a business partner as well. Also, your name doesn’t change between jobs, and advertising your business on Facebook would come across as spam… and be annoying.

SO! Here is some ideas to get you started…

First: check out this website…

here you can go through TONS of websites to see if your user name, aka Your Name, is taken and on what social websites!

Second: You have to be on social sites to network, but it is also important to understand a little about each website and strategies for each! For example:

  • Facebook:
    250 million users!
Over 120 million log on at least once a day!
    Demographics: Mostly college educated
Good For: Networking, building trust, attracting new clients
  • Twitter:
    About 6-10 million!
Demographic: Mostly 33-44 year old professionals
Good For: Getting the attention of “Big Dogs”, free advise, share advise, get noticed, etc.

In other words, each type of site, whether it is twitter, facebook, or a blog, require different types of attention of different ways to brand yourself. Make sure you also go research all the ways to use each as a marketing tool! One great way is books, webinars, and just friends’ advise.  One great book for marketing Twitter, for example, is “Twitter Power” by Joel Comm. Its amazing! Go grab a copy! Not to mention quite entertaining as he seems to be very witty!

Third: Go start signing up! Use your name as the username! Get blogging, get tweeting, and facebooking (geeze, how many new adjectives can social media come up with?).

See you in the Virtual World!

P.S. I will have much more tips later so keep checking in!

New to the blogging world

Decided to join the world of bloggers! Can’t wait to share tips, articles, and everything else with you!

My assistant, Kaley, will also be adding soon some really neat stuff for Oklahoma Realtors that you won’t want to miss!
