Good Afternoon Everybody!
Want to Brand Yourself Online?
Did you know 76% of Americans have the Internet at home or work?
Well…
Lately my assistant and I have been attending many different webinars taught by experts in the social media world and the importance of marketing ourselves and our names online!
So I thought I’d share a little info with you!
One thing I’ve learned is to market your NAME not your business. This is how you brand your name and when people begin to know you and trust you as a person, they will begin to trust you as a business partner as well. Also, your name doesn’t change between jobs, and advertising your business on Facebook would come across as spam… and be annoying.
SO! Here is some ideas to get you started…
First: check out this website…
here you can go through TONS of websites to see if your user name, aka Your Name, is taken and on what social websites!
Second: You have to be on social sites to network, but it is also important to understand a little about each website and strategies for each! For example:
- Facebook:
250 million users!
Over 120 million log on at least once a day!
Demographics: Mostly college educated
Good For: Networking, building trust, attracting new clients
- Twitter:
About 6-10 million!
Demographic: Mostly 33-44 year old professionals
Good For: Getting the attention of “Big Dogs”, free advise, share advise, get noticed, etc.
In other words, each type of site, whether it is twitter, facebook, or a blog, require different types of attention of different ways to brand yourself. Make sure you also go research all the ways to use each as a marketing tool! One great way is books, webinars, and just friends’ advise. One great book for marketing Twitter, for example, is “Twitter Power” by Joel Comm. Its amazing! Go grab a copy! Not to mention quite entertaining as he seems to be very witty!
Third: Go start signing up! Use your name as the username! Get blogging, get tweeting, and facebooking (geeze, how many new adjectives can social media come up with?).
See you in the Virtual World!
